So I have this A1502 Macbook (late 2013). I love it, it has been loyal to me throughout college and into my career. Probably the best generation of Macbook Pro. As I type this now, some keys have to be pressed multiple times in order to elicit a response. My trackpad doesn’t work at all, except for the rare “right mouse button click” or double click. I have done SMC and NVRAM resets, I removed and reseated the keyboard and trackpad cables, and I have also played around in single user mode (I have attached a readout of the commands I ran). Unfortunately the trackpad flex cable runs under the battery in these 2013 models so changing it out is a difficult task. A few other issues: it runs hot, 90-95 F or more consistently. I use Mac Fan Control to run the fan at 5000 rpm. Sometimes the computer seems to think the left shift and option keys is being pressed, resulting in issues with random characters being typed. I use a keyboard editor to disable those keys on occasion. The SSD and logicboard seems to be fine, and I have used it a lot in the past 4 months since starting to work from home (Couldn’t bring my desktop home from work). I am not a genius with electronics at all, but I can follow simple guides and instructions and I like taking things apart. To me, it seems like a communication issue between the trackpad/keyboard and the logicboard.

A battery which is bulging is not a sign of a worn out battery! That is one that has either been discharged at a fast rate or one thats been charged at a fast rate so the heat causes the electrolytic to boil off creating a gas. A battery wears out from multiple charge cycles in your case we ca see its well over the 1000 cycles one is expects you’ve put over 1,550 cycles! I think you’ve got your moneys worth! Determine battery cycle count for Mac notebooks Time for a new battery! MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013 Battery Replacement But what’s important in your case is more than a very tired battery but the voltage level the battery offers now is at a level which can effect the stability of the system as a whole and its likely you’ll need to replace the cable too MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Trackpad Cable Update (06/29/2020) Different series have the keyboard wired to the trackpad in this series the keyboard is wired directly to the logic board with its own connection as you can see here

Lets really look at this is a way that brings us to the point: You’re in a car and the gas gage is hitting E for empty! The engine sputters as it tries to push you forward. You have a small hill in front of you the engine is just not able to get you up the hill. So the engine is at fault! It can’t be anything else! Nope! the lack of gas is what did you in! Thats what you face here the battery (gas tank) is empty and the fumes is all thats able to run your system. One can’t expect it to run well in this condition and one can’t dig deeper if there is still issues as we have this holding up back. Please just replace the battery, just don’t glue it in yet! Lets see where we are then! Since you brought up the other case which is similar to yours, did you have a liquid spill or use a spray cleaner or wet wipe on your system? Omer had a blistered battery which was pressing on the keyboard caused the keyboard problem, and he got is display wet which gave him an error within diagnostics (VFD002). Omer was also being told a lot of junk and the obvious issue was completely ignored! Battery! Battery!! Battery!!! mmm… sound familiar ;-}
