Hi, this seems to be a common problem… I already read a couple of reports about this particular problem with Unibody MacBook Pro’s. In two different situations I needed to remove the logicboard of a couple of MacBook Pro 15" Unibody systems (for reapplying the thermal paste). Everything went ok, but once they where reassembled with complete care and reconnecting everything (even the backlight cable that’s under one of the coolers) the keyboards’ backlight illumination in both systems were uneven, where the light is mostly at the center. The first time I didn’t notice it (wasn’t so pronounced) and passed it by, but now that I did this procedure again in another system, I realized that I must be doing something wrong when reassembling. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi again, it wasn’t the cable. IMHO it’s very easy to re-attarch this cable. It has just 2 contacts. The problem was that I moved the backlight’s plastic background a bit (maybe yanked the cable while disassembling). This “plastic background” is where the LEDs are connected. So I disassembled all again, lightly pressed the zone where the LEDs are attached and presto! Working perfectly again! Thanks!

The keyboard cable is actually a very difficult cable to re-attach. I’d suggest just pulling the bottom case off again, unplug the cable and try it again. I’ve personally not seen the backlight be uneven after I’ve reassembled them… but I’d start there.
