Hi! So I’ve got a mechanical keyboard (Redragon Andromeda, nothing too fancy) that I have been using for the past 4 years with no problems. A few months ago it started crashing from time to time and I am unable to type anything on it, but the keys are still all lit. After a restart, everything goes back to normal, but sometimes the fix only lasts 10 minutes and the keyboard crashes again. Today I gave up and replaced the keyboard with some Genius membrane keyboard that I had lying around. I plugged it in after my Redragon died again and nothing. The new keyboard was not working. I restarted the PC and now it works and has not died yet, but I fear that will happen soon. So this must be a computer problem, not a keyboard or port/cable one. What can I do?

Hi @dan37, You said “……. not a keyboard or port/cable one” so did you try a different USB port or even a few, in case they were connected to the same USB controller? I’m not sure as you didn’t specifically mention that you did. I realize that you said that the keys are still lit but check that the power management setting for the keyboard in Device Manager that says “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” is disabled or unchecked. Go to Device Manager - Keyboards - click on the > symbol to the left of the category name to expand the list - right click on the keyboard device entry - Properties - Power Management - checkbox marked “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” To get to Device Manager press the Win key and the x key (both together) and click on the Device Manager link
