I replaced my keyboard and battery (parts from ifixit). Tested along the way and everything was looking good. But when finally finished it the keyboard doesn’t work. The step where it starts to fail is when I put the trackpad cover back on, even before I screw it down. Maybe it doesn’t like being bent down? Everytime I remove the trackpad cover to test it works. Other thing to note is the zip connector for my keyboard is broken (the little plastic lock). But like I said it works when the ribbon isn’t pushed down by the trackpad cover. And the ribbon looks fully in, it’s really hard to get out…
I believe the answer is the metal frame / backing of the keyboard has a exposed metal sharp edge where the ribbon of the keyboard comes out. This is a design flaw IMO, it should’ve been taped up or something. Anyway, when the ribbon is pulled up and bent (from the trackpad cover) it rubs against this exposed sharp edge. And it just cuts the power, and eventually ruins the ribbon cable.
