Hello there, My poor old faithful 2012 MBP has been needing a lot of TLC recently, (HDD failure, Mag-Safe needed replaced, Fan replaced) and I’ve done all of the repairs myself. I’ve damaged the retention clip that holds the keyboard ribbon cable and as a result have been experiencing intermittent dropouts in keyboard function and backlight. If I shake the machine gently it usually regains full function until the machine is moved again and I’ve had to re-seat the cable twice now which was extremely tricky. Does anybody have any experience with either replacing the retention clip? Is there a DIY option to keep the cable in contact with the gold pins before the clip needs completely replaced? Thanks in advanced, Dan
No need to Macgyver things! Just get a replacement connector and carefully transfer the clip part over! Here’s the needed part: Keyboard Connector I would get two just in case ;-}
