Hi I’ve gone through a lengthy repair to replace my keyboard which had a non-functioning power button (that led me to replace the motherboard and a variety of other items - I hate repairing Macs!). All seems to work now, except the keyboard and touchpad (though the power button works - only button that works, ironically) - got an error message on the restart stating that those two were not identified. I am fairly certain I know why - I think I damaged the trackpad ribbon during the process. I’ve ordered a replacement, but am having a hard time figuring out how to actually replace it. I’ve found videos for 2015 models, but they don’t look the same as mine. Would appreciate any help/suggestions. I’ve got a 15” retina late 2013 Macbook Pro. I am hoping I don’t have to open everything up again, but fear I might have to get under the motherboard to make this happen. Thanks!
I don’t think you have to get under the motherboard to replace this ribbon, but you’ll have to get under the battery and remove the trackpad. Here’s a guide: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013 Trackpad Replacement You can see that the trackpad ribbon runs from the motherboard through and under the trackpad into another connector on the trackapad board itself. Once you get the trackpad out the replacement should be straightforward.
